Greeting from the President
I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as President of the Japan Society for Molecular Science (JSMS). First of all, on behalf of all the JSMS members, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Prof. Yasuhiro Ohshima, the 8th President of JSMS, the board members, and the organizers of the Annual Meetings, who have supported the activities of JSMS during the unforeseeable period of the Corona disaster. We also thank the organizing committee of the 16th Annual Meeting chaired by Prof. Atsushi Nakajima for giving us the opportunity to reaffirm the importance of face-to-face interactions. Although the situation remains unpredictable, many of you may be feeling positive about our future research environment.
JSMS was established in 2006 to promote research and education in molecular science and thereby contribute to the development of science and culture. JSMS has continuously developed through the efforts of the community and played important roles in advancing our understanding in molecular science, creating new trends in molecular science, and producing the next generation of academic research leaders. I hope that you will share the above spirit and advance your own research in various fields of molecular science.
Meanwhile, there are several challenges I would like to work on with you for the sustainable development of JSMS. The first challenge is to increase the diversity of our membership. Interaction among researchers with diverse ideas and backgrounds is essential for the sound development of scientific research. For JSMS to have an international presence in academia, it is essential that we share international values regarding diversity. The second is to encourages students and young researchers to engage in research activities freely and openly. I hope that young researchers and students will actively use the support programs provided by JSPS. The third is to inspire as many middle and high school students as possible to become interested in the field of molecular science research by directly sharing our passion for research.
I would be very grateful if you share the values on diversity, support for young researchers, and outreach to youth, and give us your opinions and ideas on these issues. I would like to do my best to support the activities of JSMS together with the board members. I look forward to working with you over the next two years.
